DESCRIPTION
Embrace the challenge and accelerate your growth with Amazon’s International Public Policy and Government Affairs Team. The Public Policy Manager, Digital and Devices Policy will join a growing and dynamic team, that works across Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Asia Pacific, in support of Amazon’s global consumer business. The International Public Policy team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, NGOs and academia across regulatory and policy issues, spanning the consumer and commercial environment. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers.
Responsibilities for this position include:
As Public Policy Manager, Digital and Devices (Germany), you will be responsible for engaging and partnering with policymakers, regulators, academia and other non-governmental groups in support of our consumer-centric business model. You will demonstrate an astute understanding of the public policy and regulatory environment. You will work closely with Amazon’s public policy, public relations, legal, and business functions to establish the public policy engagement and advocacy agenda and advise relevant business units on the regulatory agenda.
You will coordinate across Amazon’s business, locally and globally, to develop and implement positioning and engagement strategies. You will lead external advocacy efforts, outreach programmes, partnerships, and initiatives in support of business objectives. You will coordinate Amazon’s engagement with industry associations and manage consultancy support. You will be able to manage and drive complex projects, and provide clear and confident guidance, including in situations of high ambiguity. You will be a confident leader, operating respectfully and collaboratively within wider regional and international structures. You will work closely with Amazon’s public policy, public relations, legal, and business functions to establish the public policy and advocacy agenda.
The Manager will be willing to travel within Germany and, based on business needs, internationally.
The position is based in Berlin, Germany.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree in public policy, economics, business, law, or similar degree
- 10 years of relevant public policy, advocacy and government relations experience within corporate public policy and government relations, in public administration, consultancy or trade association
- A keen working understanding of policymaking processes and government relations, particularly as they relate to economic policy and regulation
- Written and spoken fluency in German and English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a proven ability to convey complex arguments in writing
- Highly effective interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate and political levels.
- Highest personal level of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
- Astute understanding of the policy environment in Germany in relevant areas such as digital, data privacy, economic regulation
- A self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills
- Proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization, as well as working independently
- Experience working collaboratively in a highly-matrixed environment, alongside legal, PR, and business teams
- Proven ability to build effective partnerships with business owners and technical partners.
