DESCRIPTION
Embrace the challenge and accelerate your growth with Amazon’s International Public Policy team. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers. The International Public Policy team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, NGOs and academia across regulatory and policy issues, spanning the consumer and commercial environment, including but not limited to digital policy, consumer policy, economic policy, privacy, intellectual property, logistics and tax policy.
The Public Policy Manager will join a growing and dynamic public policy team working in Germany. The role is based in Berlin.
As Public Policy Manager, Germany, you will be responsible for partnering with legislators and officials in support of our consumer-centric business model at the highest levels of government and policy-making. You will have an astute understanding of the public policy and regulatory environment, as well as key stakeholders within it. You will coordinate across Amazon’s business, locally and globally, to develop and implement positioning and engagement strategies.
You will lead external advocacy efforts, outreach programmes, partnerships, and initiatives in support of these business objectives. You will coordinate Amazon’s engagement with relevant industry associations and wider coalitions, and manage consultancy support. You will be able to manage and drive complex projects, and provide clear and confident guidance, including in situations of high ambiguity. You will be a confident leader, but are also able to operate respectfully and collaboratively within wider regional and international structures.
You will work closely with Amazon’s public policy, public relations, legal, and business functions to establish the public policy and advocacy agenda.
The Manager will be willing to travel within Germany and, based on business needs, internationally.
The position is based in Berlin, Germany.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree in law, public policy, economics, business, communications or similar degree
- 8 years of relevant public policy, advocacy and government relations experience e.g. within industry, public administration, consultancy or trade association
- A keen working understanding of policymaking processes and government relations
- Written and spoken fluency in German and English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- A Master’s Degree in law, public policy, economics, business, communications or similar graduate degree
- Strong knowledge of the policy environment in Germany in at least some of the key areas; i.e., digital, data privacy, economic regulation.
- A self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results
- A track record of highest integrity and public policy succes
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate and political levels.
- Outstanding written communication skills, and a proven ability to convey complex arguments in writing.
- Experience working at high level and collaboratively in a highly-matrixed environment, alongside teams including Legal, PR, and business teams
- Experience with public policy leadership in consumer-facing, technology or logistics companies.
